PANACHE…PROENZA SCHOULER.

The Proenza Schouler show was stocked and chocked full of hip and hot fabrics composed of patterns strategically mirrored in velvets, wools, silks, etc.

Following their signature format, the duo created prints and manufactured a stunning presentation that included sinuous slacks, bias cut frocks and form fitting looks draped beautifully…Not a surprise…They never miss the “fashion do” mark and are sticklers for the next big trend.

Which computes easily…They ARE the Trendsetters.

Posh…Prim…Panache…

The spectators that sauntered and sashayed into the Dennis Basso presentation were a mix of eclecticism and diversity, indicating that his fan base, spans the gamut from the Upper East Side and Soho to Hollywood and Brooklyn…The majority flaunting and flashing their finest pilage for the high end occasion.

Confiding that he focused on “Her Masculine Side” while designing this collection, the looks were overflowing with seduction and sass appeal.

The variety of fur ranged from lynx, kidassia, fox, chinchilla and broadtail. This luxury was incorporated with diaphanous fabrics including taffeta, cashmere, chiffon, etc. creating a lovely compilation of beautiful frocks in waistcoats, cropped jackets and vests.

Beauty…Bliss…

MAAA-RVELOUS MARC!!!

Polka dot passion?!? Yes, it seems polka dots are BACK!!! And who better to revamp the trend than Mr. Jacobs?

Cropped military jackets, scalloped pencil skirts, ruffled pantsuits and pillbox toppers were showcased at the presentation that dabbled in various textiles ranging from wool and cashmere to ponyskin, plastic and even faux crocodile!!!

The collection is a consolidation of several eras that strengthen your fashion war chest and allows an effortless transition from work to play.

LIBERATING…LIBERTINE!!!

Last modified on 2011-02-14 16:53:19 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

With Libertine back on the fashion show roster and literally in full effect, the hip fashion mongers are set to pounce.

Touting garments and hosiery ensconced with graphics in neon, florescent or monochromatic hues, the looks teetered in the sixties era with A – line frocks, mid calf trousers and suiting.

Not one to shy away from the additional “bells and whistles”, Mr. Hartig (the designer), affixed crystals, sequins and metallic appliqués to bring the collection to a crescendo.

Labyrinthine…Lively…Liberating…

AU FAIT…ALEXANDER WANG

The Alexander Wang collection was peppered with punches of adrenalin pulsing looks that demanded the attention of the designer that has received accolades and awards for the past few seasons…

And he proved why his meteoric rise is well deserved…From the voluminous “Conchos” (capes + ponchos), to the revamped asymmetric car wash dirndls/ tops and the textile metamorphosis of fabrics that ran the gamut from plush wool to soft satin. This collection showcased his take on the future of fashion through design and fabrication.

Adept…Adroit…Au Fait…

STUPENDOUS… JILL STUART.

Jill Stuart certainly struck a nerve with her interpretation of wears for work and play.

Intense color blocking, intrinsic incorporation of fowl and mammals, coalesced with jewel tones spanning from copper and indigo to malachite and scarlet, the shifts and sixties “Secretary” style dresses and tops are synonymous with what we call an absolute HIT!!!

Enchanting…Stunning…Stupendous.

THE TRIAD…THREEASFOUR.

The triad, also known as, Threeasfour have continued to push the proverbial fashion envelope and managed to keep the concepts intriguing and beyond question, fashion forward…

The F/W 2011 presentation did not disappoint, obviously inspired by music, string instruments to be exact, the team incorporated the art literally and figuratively.

This collection offered drama. Be it harps or violins, garments were intricately and precisely strewn or festooned with “string” details whether for practical or chimerical purposes. Coupled with detailed leather pants, patterned leggings and dresses that are ready to wear at its best, the show is a perfect balance for the classic consumer AND the eclectic fashionista.

Enthusiast…Tenuous…Theorist.

WAY TO “WU” ME…

Whether outfitting the hip jetsetters, upper east side blue bloods or his most famous client, the first lady (Michelle Obama), Jason Wu doesn’t disappoint.

His take on “Classic with a Twist” is drenched with fresh and energizing notes of opulence…A characteristic that is usually lost on designers of his age (29). Be it the draping, succinct lines or the lace and embellishment details, it all equates to a gorgeous presentation.

Wonderful!!!

WHAT GOES AROUND…

To kick off New York Fashion Week, the popular vintage boutique, What Comes Around Goes Around, presented a fantastic show that offered a small taste of our lavish fashion past.

As the SOHO Grand Hotel pulsed with vibrations from the Black Keys the powers that be, described their show as “Gypsy Jetsetters” and “Nordic Nomads”, the flashbacks streamed with highlights from the sixties and seventies…Immersed in flamboyant luxury and provocative accoutrements, the display overflowed with prospects for even the most current fashion closet.

I’ll buy…

Not one to shy away from controversy, Jeremy Scott was true to form with his Spring collage of wears.

Using phrases that we see daily as street wear created a think tank for the Scott fans that get him…The “Statement T’s”, (Help Wanted/ For Rent/ Thank You For Shopping Here/ F**K YOU) took on a whole new meaning when they were worn as garments rather than around your wrist or on a storefront.

Other looks that caught my attention were the multi – color mini dress and, oddly enough, the straight jacket wedding dress (yes…I got it Jeremy)…

Weird, but true. ; – )

3.1 PHILLIP LIM

Phillip Lim has hit his stride with this collection…

I LOVED the diaphanous polka dots slacks and patterned raincoat trimmed in black. All the looks touted an air of refinement.

Although the presentation was mostly achromatic, it was delightful to partake in the designers vision of layering and mixing fabrications. Brilliant!!!

Having an architectural design background, I’m one to truly appreciate the elements that are included to create in any facet of the artistic community.

That being said, I believe that Ruffian (Morais / Wolk) have brought the details to fruition…the “KNOT or TWIST” dress is the perfect example, scalloped shoulders, cinched waist? Simple…Sexy…Sophisticated.

The entire collection is as alluring, wide leg slacks, A – line skirts with lining detail, military style blazers bedecked with brass hardware.

The mingling of the “RUFF” (i.e., strong) exterior and soft appeal makes for a perfect compound.

GORGEOUS!!!

THAKOON

The “THAKOON” Panichgul presentation pushed the envelope for the 2011 S/S season.

Between the superb details in construction, peek – a – boo mesh ensembles and diaphanous fabrics, it was a beautiful collection!!!

My favorites??? The light washed denim suit, paperbag shorts and the silver python jacket…of course…LOVE!!!

ZERO + MARIA CORNEJO

Anyone familiar with Maria Cornejo’s past collections understands that she has an extreme eye for detail…Technically speaking, an architect of apparel.

Falling into step with the new season, this collection does not disappoint. The draping of dresses, construction of jackets, slacks, etc. is phenomenal.

Then, as an added bonus, the various prints implemented (a revamped tie – dye, 60’s mod, marbled, etc.) brought the collection full circle.

With a growing fan base, myself included, I can’t wait to see the Fall collection!!!

Over the past few months, Mr. Jacobs was obviously in a 70’s state of mind…The Marc by Marc collection possessed the same energy as the Marc Jacobs presentation, but with a kick of “RED BULL”…

Yes, this presentation had wings!!! Brighter, bolder, more vibrant colors…horizontal prints (I know…it’s always been stressed NOT to wear anything horizontal, but hey…on the size 0 models, it looks FAB!!)

Jumpsuits, hot pants, A – line dresses and fun…

MALANDRINO

While viewing the Malandrino collection, I felt that there were so many ethnic influences flowing through the vein of the presentation.

The macramé aspect was intertwined throughout…Sandals, bags, vests, etc.

Another triumph was the printed fabrics draped beautifully, gaucho shorts/pants and inverted pleat trousers…NICE!!!

From the sleeveless host gowns to super short shorts suits and intricate knits (all in bold colors)…The Marc Jacobs collection was filled with nostalgic 70’s glamour.

Duly noted are the devilish details, the mesh weaves of fabric in silks, satins, etc…The Billie Holiday /Diana Ross hairpiece, “LADY SINGS THE BLUES” (circa 1972)…and you can’t forget the platform shoes, palazzo pants and wide brimmed hats.

GORGEOUS!!!

DIANE von FURSTENBERG

The Diane Von Furstenberg collection was an array of abstract prints and gorgeous color (mint/ chocolate brown/ canary yellow/ tangerine/ violet, etc.)

The hooded jumper and side knot dress are both favorites and whoever thought the high waist hot pant would ever make a comeback? Well, apparently Mrs. DVF did and it’s CUTE!!!

Simplistic, Quiescent, Serene…Just a few thoughts that came to mind while watching the Max Azria presentation.

The fluid fabric trousers, shirts and dresses evoked a feeling of ocean breeze…I don’t know why, but it made me reminisce about my last vacation.

Now, when a collection can take you to another place “Mentally”…That is a GREAT sign!!!

The muted color palette (grey /creme /white / seafoam green) was understated but made a statement. The collection in itself is a marvel, razor thin straps, strategically placed scores here and there…

No bells and whistles, just straight forward, in your face STYLE.

VICTORIA BECKHAM

The Victoria Beckham collection is an exhibition show that is a true representation of herself…

Whether it’s a shift dress, A – line or form fitted (i.e., spandex) we can all see Mrs. Posh sashaying in front of the paparazzi, toting oversize sunglasses, a stacked heel and Birkin bag (of course) in hand.

The collection contains looks that are for the modern woman that incorporate a seam of simplicity in their wardrobe that delivers classic style.

Self centered? Yes…POSH? Undoubtedly…

LOVE IT!!!

The Project Runway winner of 2009 presented a fashion presentation that continued to showcase his talent.

Being sure to cover the bases, he created looks for every facet of life. From weekend brunch to work week wear…And, he was sure to include the elegant evening and black tie glamour looks.

The introduction of print and color combinations is well received…Steadily growing as a mainstay in the industry, we hope that his outlook of creativity will continue to grow as well…

Well done Christian!!!

How do I summarize the new Lyn Devon collection?  “ANNIE HALL” Returns!!! (Diane Keaton – 1977)

The classics dripping in charming idiosyncrasies with whiffs of male testosterone, but gusts of female hormones.

Case in point, the 3 – d polka dot blouse embellished with black pearls or the shirt dress with french cuffs and mammoth bow tie.

If the reverse metrosexual look is not your cup of tea, the belted double breasted sleeveless dress or the long printed frock with pockets and belted (of course), will certainly pique your interest.

Dainty with an edge…Hmmm.

Models donning looks reminiscent of “Lorna” from the “One Million Years B.C.” (Raquel Welch) classic, intertwined (excuse the pun) with macrame from the “Flower Power” era made for a beautiful presentation.

The macrame, a detail that is developing into a signature for Jen Kao is intricate with a flair of sophistication. (LOVED the shoes/sandals!!!)

Silk skirts and dresses floated and elaborate construction perfected the show…

Again, BEAUTIFUL!!!

CUSHNIE et OCHS

The duo of Cushnie Et Ochs presented a fashion show laced with creations that entailed razor thin fabrics which fluttered in the new venue breeze…

This was a vast contrast compared to their S/S 2010 collection which was very body conscious.

The looks??? Simplistic Comfort with a twist…Mighty Minis…Sheer Blouses…and the Draping of select pieces are LOVELY!!!

Make sure the phone ringer is turned up…The buyers will be calling. : – )

PRINTS…PRINTS…PRINTS…Most were there and they (horizontal, chevron, convoluted along with many others) dominated the BENSONI presentation.

Accompanying the line variations were flirty looks that “POPPED” with neon colors. The details in the collection were notable. (pleated mini – skirts/strips of lace/acid washed jean fabrics, etc.)

Cute…Frisky…Au Courant…

The starlets will LOVE it!!!
